It is used in Japanese cuisine and macrobiotic diet, where it is a healthy alternative to regular salt. The seeds were toasted before ground and blended with the pink Himalayan salt. This macrobiotic recipe contains less salt than traditional Japanese gomashio (ca. 18 parts sesame to 1 part salt). The Sesamum indicum seeds are oil-rich and carry a nutty flavor. Sesame helps to balance cholesterol and contains vitamin E + B and is rich in iron,calcium, copper, manganese and magnesium, including antioxidants and anti-cancer properties.
