Taiwan [Formosa] is cultivating and processing tea since the 17th Century. The roots originate from China's Fujian Province, home the famous White Teas. Until recently most of the Oolongs and Senchas were grown to be exported to Japan.
Most Tea Estates are located below 1000 feet above sealevel at the northern part of the island. Formosa 'Jade & Champagne' Oolongs rank among the world's finest teas.

Precious leaves from the Fujian Province in China are also referred to as Wulong or Wu-Long Teas (named after Wu Liang who, as legend has it, started the semi-fermentation process of the 'Black Dragon' leaves).
